Jordan Rookie Card Sets Record, Kelce Super Bowl Jersey Highlights Goldin Elite Auction

The world of high-end modern sports cards and memorabilia witnessed another wave of impressive bids at Goldin’s August Elite Auction, with key items fetching eye-watering six-figure sums. Leading the pack was a PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan card, which clinched a staggering $244,000, setting a new record for that specific grade and further solidifying Jordan’s enduring appeal.

Hot on the heels of this sensational sale was a PSA 7 Jordan Star Company rookie card that found a new home for $62,000 via eBay, highlighting the soaring interest in Jordan’s inaugural NBA licensed trading card. Adding to the frenzy, a PSA 6.5 version of the card changed hands for an impressive $52,460, showcasing the surging momentum in the market for such iconic pieces.

In the realm of baseball, a standout piece was a one-of-a-kind 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card featuring MLB star Mike Trout. Graded PSA 9, this unique item fetched a remarkable $192,030, defying the odds despite Trout’s recent struggles with injuries.

Continuing the baseball theme, two modern baseball cards set new records for their respective players. A 2011 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Bryce Harper #5/5, graded PSA 9, commanded attention with a price tag of $184,720, while a 2014 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Mookie Betts #3/5, graded PSA 10, dazzled bidders and earned an impressive $123,220.

The allure of 1-of-1 SuperFractor cards also shone brightly in the auction, with the 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed SuperFractor Elly De La Cruz PSA 10 achieving a price of $116,534, and the Jackson Holliday SuperFractor PSA 10 selling for $68,527, setting public price records for both players.

A dual autograph Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor from the 2023-24 Topps UEFA collection was another highlight, selling for $67,100 after being graded PSA 9. This exceptional card, initially pulled by a breaker in England, made its way to Goldin at the London Card Show, captivating fans of the sport worldwide.

Shifting gears to memorabilia, Travis Kelce’s 2020-21 Super Bowl LV jersey, matched to the Kansas City Chiefs’ unfortunate loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stole the show with a winning bid of $52,460. Additionally, Kelce’s AFC Championship ring from the same season fetched a notable $34,404, solidifying his place in sports history.

Notable memorabilia sales didn’t end there, with an Aaron Judge 2017 rookie season jersey, linked to one of his record-breaking 52 home runs, garnering significant interest and selling for $51,240.

Rounding out the top sales from the auction were coveted items such as the 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes RPA #77/99, reaching $95,770, the 2018 Bowman Orange Refractor Shohei Ohtani #22/75 PSA 9, selling for $74,450, a 1996 Mariano Rivera game-used jersey photomatched to eight trading cards at $51,240, and the 1969 Topps Football Series 1 and 2 wax boxes fetching $32,940 and $31,721 respectively.

Goldin’s August Elite Auction showcased the enduring allure of both vintage and modern collectibles, with record-breaking sales underscoring the unwavering passion and demand for iconic sports memorabilia amongst avid collectors worldwide.
