Topps & Disney Extend Trading Card Partnership Globally

Topps, known for its intricate collectible trading cards, has struck gold with its latest agreement with Disney Consumer Products. The partnership has now blossomed into a global affair, granting Topps exclusive rights to bring to life the beloved characters and narratives from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars across the world.

As a division of Fanatics Collectibles, Topps has unveiled a groundbreaking expansion that will see them produce trading cards featuring iconic figures from the realms of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel. This breakthrough marks the first-ever global development and distribution of physical Marvel trading cards by Topps, a momentous leap for the renowned trading card company.

Since their inception in 1977, Topps has built a strong rapport with the Star Wars franchise. The enduring relationship continues to thrive under this extended collaboration, promising collectors an endless array of delights and surprises that have spanned decades.

Diving headfirst into this new adventure, Topps will debut its inaugural Marvel collectible trading cards under the banner of Topps Finest X-Men ’97 in early 2025. This launch aligns perfectly with the resurgent interest in the X-Men franchise and sets the stage for Topps to make a profound mark in the global distribution of Marvel cards.

The expanded partnership is a marriage of physical and digital realms, with Topps set to offer a wide array of trading cards for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars franchises both in physical form and through digital platforms worldwide. While Topps has previously dabbled in digital collectibles via the Disney Collect! and Marvel Collect! apps, this new agreement solidifies their position as a key player in the trading card market, particularly in the United States.

Paul Gitter, the Executive Vice President of Global Brand Commercialization at Disney Consumer Products, lauded the collaboration, emphasizing the companies’ shared vision for innovation in the trading card space. The partnership aims to bring the captivating narratives from Disney’s vast universe to enthusiastic card collectors worldwide.

David Leiner, the President of Trading Cards at Fanatics Collectibles, expressed his excitement about the enhanced partnership, highlighting Topps’ unwavering commitment to pleasing fans. Emphasizing their joint dedication to innovation and fan engagement, Leiner looks forward to building on the success of their long-established relationship, which includes recent triumphs like the Star Wars Chrome by Topps release.

Topps’ legacy of producing Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars trading cards in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region has paved the way for its global expansion. The recent agreement signifies a substantial push into the U.S. market and beyond, promising collectors a world of enchanting possibilities.

By merging Disney’s enchanting narratives with Topps’ expertise in collectible trading cards, the partnership aspires to create innovative products that resonate deeply with fans globally. Collectors can anticipate a fresh array of trading cards celebrating the magic of Disney, the ingenuity of Pixar, the allure of Marvel superheroes, and the grandeur of Star Wars adventures, all designed to elevate the trading card hobby to unprecedented heights.

The expanded collaboration between Topps and Disney Consumer Products heralds a new chapter for trading card enthusiasts, offering them exclusive access to some of entertainment’s most cherished characters and narratives. With a promise of unique collectibles, immersive experiences, and fresh designs on the horizon, collectors can eagerly anticipate a treasure trove of delights in the world of trading cards.
