NFL Playoff Quarterbacks Spark Surge in Rookie Card Auctions

The NFL playoffs are in full swing, and while the final four quarterbacks battle it out on the field for a chance at Super Bowl glory, collectors and sports memorabilia enthusiasts are witnessing a surge in the value of their rookie cards. The high-profile quarterbacks leading their respective teams include Patrick Mahomes II, Brock Purdy, Lamar Jackson, and Jared Goff, all of whom have seen their rookie cards attract high bids in online auctions.

In the AFC Championship game, two-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes II is facing off against Lamar Jackson, the frontrunner for the 2023 NFL MVP award. This thrilling matchup not only promises on-field excitement but also fuels the frenzy for their rookie cards. Mahomes’ 2017 autographed Panini National Treasures Black card sold for an impressive $19,300 on 62 bids, while a 2017 signed Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket card graded BGS 9.5 fetched $16,577 from 51 bids.

Meanwhile, in the NFC championship, emerging quarterbacks Brock Purdy and Jared Goff will battle it out for a spot in the Super Bowl. Purdy’s rookie cards, in particular, have been in high demand, with his 2022 Playoff Contenders signed Rookie Ticket “Cracked Ice” variation, graded PSA 10 and limited to only 22 copies, selling for $10,268 on 27 bids. Notably, other Purdy rookie cards have also garnered significant bids, such as a 2022 National Treasures signed patch card graded PSA 9, which fetched an impressive $15,000 on 53 bids.

Lamar Jackson, known for his versatility and electrifying playing style, is also a star in the sports memorabilia world. A Gem-Mint 2018 Panini Prizm Black Finite card of Jackson sold for an astonishing $51,100 on 76 bids, further cementing his status as a sought-after collectible. Additionally, a 2018 National Treasures autographed patch card numbered #27/99 and graded BGS 9.5 fetched $18,000 on 39 bids, highlighting the high demand for Jackson’s rookie cards.

Despite a mixed start with the Rams and subsequent improvement since joining the Lions, Jared Goff has also seen growing interest in his rookie cards. A 2019 Panini Absolute Kaboom! card in a gold variation, marked #6/10, sold for $3,049 on 50 bids, indicating a rise in his card’s value. Furthermore, a 2016 Donruss Optic Gold Prizm rookie card marked #2/10 and graded BGS 10 fetched $2,950 on 32 bids, demonstrating the increasing demand for Goff’s collectibles.

As the NFL playoffs continue, the excitement on the field extends to the sports memorabilia market, where the rookie cards of these top quarterbacks are proving to be highly valuable and sought-after items. Collectors and enthusiasts alike are eager to own a piece of football history, driving up the auction prices of these rare and significant collectibles. Whether it’s Mahomes’ championship pedigree, Purdy and Goff’s emerging talent, or Jackson’s electrifying playstyle, these quarterback’s rookie cards are commanding attention and making waves in the world of sports memorabilia.
